Anchors
I keep meaning to post on this, but for some crazy reason, I never seem to have much time. So, here goes...
I am really concerned at the state of the children in our country. Yes, there are orphans all over the world, thousands here, even, but I am not talking about true orphans. I am talking about all the pseudo-orphans. Mom's career is more important, or a bigger lifestyle, or whatever. The main thing is, Mom fails to be Mom. Not to even mention the absent fathers - whether because they choose to be workaholics or because they have truly left for good. Divorce is rampant. All parents think about is themselves and what they want. Kids are sent to school, not because that is what is best but just because Mom doesn't want to have to deal with them all day. Amazing! The most important part of survival for our nation, our faith, everything is our children. But yet we fail to anchor them to Christ. We let them float - adrift on a sea of tolerance and acceptance. God isn't about tolerance. He accepts us as we are, but expects us to allow Him to work in us for better. God is very specific about holiness. He expects us to be holy because He is holy. Yet we leave our children to make mistake after mistake, falling farther and farther from Him, because we don't take the time to do our jobs. As parents first and foremost, but even in churches. We look for easy, babysitting type lessons for them so that no one has to be bothered with preparing a lesson each week. We put all our church funds into outreach and advertising which, while good things, need to be balanced with the needs of our children. They need to know Jesus just as badly as anyone else, and they are at a better time to learn! Oh Lord, may we cease in our selfishness and anchor our children firmly to the Rock that is Christ Jesus! May we do everything we can to teach our children to hold firm to the only Truth they will ever have - His Word. May we teach them to choose their friends wisely, so that they will not be yoked with unbelievers. May we teach them the truths of real purity, and not the lies that have invaded our society so well. May we teach them that they are sinners, who will make mistakes, but, if they will surrender to Him, He will save them from the enslavement of this sin pattern that ensnares us all. That they must surrender every part of their lives, every minute of their lives. That He expects us to join Him in His work, wherever He calls us. That He expects our very lives to be His completely. Then, and only then, can we live in the freedom that comes from not being tossed on the waves, but being anchored to the Rock.
